Tetris. Tired. Texting.

It’s been a busy week and I’m exhausted. I’m trying to give up caffeine, and that does not make it any easier. The past few days have felt like a game of Tetris, which I always have loved. Let me demonstrate.

Saturday
I’m hanging out with Sar and mention hiking. She insists that she wants to go sometime and bemoans that we can’t go during the week because of my job. I point out that I am still free in the evenings, so she suggests we go Thursday, since she’ll be getting off work early in the afternoon.

Sunday
I ask my mom what days she’ll be working the coming week: Tuesday and Wednesday. That only leaves Monday (I come over to their place once a week to eat dinner, play cribbage with my dad, hang out and talk, and of course, do laundry) since I don’t feel Friday is a good day for laundry (I would say doing laundry on a Friday night makes me super-lame, but I’ve definitely had quite a few chill Friday nights in my life).

Monday
I wake up early to go for a run and start my sleep debt cycle for the week.

When I get to work I have an email from my friend Sunnie, whom I haven’t seen in a while, asking if I have some free time this week to finally get together. I offer up Tuesday and Wednesday, the only mid-week days I have left, and give her my phone number, since she doesn’t have it any more.

The Boy sends me a text message later in the morning asking when he will get to see me again. I can’t decide how I feel about this one, so I deflect. However, when I haven’t heard from Sunnie by late evening, I figure Tuesday won’t work for her, so I offer up Tuesday and Friday.

Tuesday
I wake up for work imagining I dreamt I received a very very late text message during the night. Turns out it wasn’t a dream and The Boy was letting me know he’s only available Friday. I don’t know how I feel about the late night text message or the fact that he’s going to be making me dinner on a Friday night (gee, doesn’t that sound like a date), but I decide to just go with my gut feeling of happy. When I text him back to confirm he replies with “Ok. Can’t wait.” That’s definitely a smile on my face, but I pretend that it’s just the beautiful day shining in my window.

At work I have an email from Sunnie saying she’s down for getting together tonight. I email her back and we work out the details.

I wonder if I should try to plan an excursion for Wednesday with Colin when he texts me to ask if I want to go hiking. On Wednesday. Perfect! My Tetris board is complete.

After work I drive to Golden to meet up with Sunnie at a little Mediterranean restaurant on the river. We enjoy a couple glasses of red, a cool breeze blowing off of the water, good catching up and conversation, and mediocre food (I’ll admit I’m difficult to impress and Italian food isn’t usually what I’m most inclined to rave about). All-in-all, a wonderful evening. I even get to chat with her husband (they’re newlyweds and I’ve met him a few times) since he’s our waiter!

Wednesday
Colin and I go hiking and I realize how much it sucks to take a two-week hiatus from the sport. Is it really this hard? I wonder as we trudge up the trail. Fortunately we do a fairly easy route where even Colin’s breakneck pace can’t wind me too badly (well, can’t make me super-miserable and sing “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming” over and over in my head, which I do by the way).

Thursday
Sarah and I do a relatively easy hike, which I’m grateful for. Not only am I sore from Wednesday, but I’ve got a mysterious headache (I suspect not enough caffeine). For dinner we go to the Rio for some Mexican fare. Although we both feel criminal for not ordering the best margaritas around, neither one of us think we can handle that much alcohol in our current states of exhaustedness. We enjoy sitting out on the patio as the sun sets behind the Flatirons (lucky for our inattentive waiter it was so nice out).

Friday
Now we come to my non-date this evening. My hopes: that I can convey my feelings clearly. Yes, of course a part of me is interested, but I need time to see if I can trust him again before I dive into anything. No matter what stupid smiles make their way across my face.

Saturday
For the past two weeks Colin and I have been planning a whitewater rafting trip for this Saturday (okay, so Colin did most of the planning, but I did help recruit members). He’s very excited about going and selected a route called “The Narrows,” which is a class IV/V stretch of the Arkansas. I'm 90% excited, and 10% scared...or it could be 90% scared and 10% excited." But that’s what makes it so fun…the confusion! I’ll can’t wait for “narrow, rocky, and technical with relentless drops and continuous whitewater.” And I’ve reached my paragraph quote quota.

Wish me luck! (for what, I’m not yet sure)
